Mental health isn’t a destination, it’s a journey.
Leo Gonzalez Jr., Ph.D.
Hi, my name is Dr. Leo Gonzalez Jr., and I am the founder and owner of New Generation Mental Health Counseling. I created this practice to embody my belief that positive mental health is the foundation for living a meaningful, fulfilling life. At New Generation Mental Health Counseling, our mission is to provide accessible, innovative, and compassionate care to individuals from all walks of life. I am passionate about creating a space where clients feel valued, understood, and empowered to thrive. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California, and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). I earned my M.S. Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John’s University and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Oregon State University. In addition, I serve as an Assistant Professor at St. John’s University, teaching in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
With a strong foundation in community mental health, college counseling, and addiction counseling, I bring extensive expertise to the leadership of New Generation Mental Health Counseling. My therapeutic approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered principles, a philosophy that guides our practice’s approach to client care. I am also deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of counselors, ensuring they are equipped to meet the diverse needs of their communities. As the founder, I focus on building a team of dedicated and skilled clinicians who share my commitment to providing high-quality, client-centered care. I believe that with the right support, change is not only possible—it is transformative. Through New Generation Mental Health Counseling, I strive to create an environment where clients and communities can access the tools and guidance they need to build brighter, healthier futures.
